After graduating from the Hochschule Niederrhein, Germany with her Bachelor of Arts, Maria Völkel dedicated herself to fulfill her artistic ideas. She became interested in glass as a sculptural medium after working in 2010 for the glass artists Michael Behrens and Peter Bremers, with whom she still works today.

While she studied various techniques and made objects out of flat glass, blown glass and lamp glass, her enthusiasm grew for the diversity of this unique material and the creative possibilities it offers.

While her works made use of an organic language of forms at the beginning of her artistic career, she currently creates figurative sculptures in her studio, whose glass is melted in plaster molds.
